What is Ayurveda & how does it connect to Yoga?

Most people have heard of Yoga, but many may not be familiar with Ayurveda, and how knowledge of Ayurveda can be used as a foundational tool in the traditional practice of Yoga.



Ayurveda is a five thousand year old "science of life" and the traditional healing system of India. To understand its connection to Yoga in a simple way, we can see Ayurveda as the medical or healing aspect of Yoga and Yoga as the spiritual aspect of Ayurveda.


Both Yoga and Ayurveda view the body, mind and soul as one and have specific methods for working on each of these aspects of an individual.


Both Yoga and Ayurveda look at the individual as multi-layered made up by a unique combination of various elements, to be approached and guided in a unique way. [As a side note: This is just ONE reason why doing Yoga 1:1 with the teacher is a highway to physical, mental and emotional transformation]


This is because Yoga and Ayurveda derive from the same ancient philosophy on life and consciousness.


Together Ayurveda and Yoga make a complete healing science; starting at the root causes of an individual's physical and psychological dis-ease, increasing our energy stores, and improving all aspects of our lives so we may move onto the spiritual path of Yoga.
