The following extract come from William Martin's The Parent Tao de Ching.
I found this at a time many years ago when my best friend was soon to be having his first (surprise) baby, and I had only just started to question my own feelings about one day being a mom. This quote really touched me, and I've shared it many soon-to-be parents since who seem to like it too!
"Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary life come alive for them. The extraordinary life will take care of itself."
