Homemade Basil Pesto in the making

Benefits to making pesto at home

The ingredients used in pesto have great health benefits! Garlic is said to help combat flu/sickness, and can help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Basil is a natural anti inflammatory, and is said to help fight depression. Pine nuts are high in vitamin k and are known to contribute towards healthy bone strength. Overall, pesto is good for the body!

How to make basil pesto

Add the following ingredients to a food processor:

  • Basil pruned from 3 house plants / bought at the store / local grocer

  • 4 garlic cloves

  • 2 cups of Grana Padano or a similar hard cheese like Parmesan

  • 1 1/2 cups of pine nuts

  • a sprinkle of salt

  • a pinch of pepper

  • enough olive oil to make a liquid base for blending

Blend all together and eat over pasta, on bread, straight out the jar, or any way you enjoy best!
