1-Day Smoothie Cleanse

A cleanse is a great way to refresh the body (and mind) when you're feeling sluggish or simply want to boost your health. By eliminating processed foods and artificial ingredients, cleanses can flood your body with vitamins and nutrients that promote organ health, including supporting the natural detox process.

Although the juice cleanse is perhaps trendier, I prefer a smoothie cleanse (blending and drinking the entire fruit, not just the juice) for a few reasons: first, it's much more satiating and you never feel like you're starving; second, you don't miss out on all the fiber in the plants; and finally, it takes less fruit than a juice cleanse, which requires a lot more produce to extract enough juice to get you through the day.

For this cleanse, I stocked up on some of my favorite fruits (and some veg) from the market and played around with the flavors.

For a cleanse lasting a few more days, adding in vegetable 'soups' (like beet or tomato) can help mix it up. The effects of a cleanse are best felt one to two days afterwards, so be sure to introduce foods back in mindfully and drink plenty of water.
